Successful businesses know where their next star employees are coming from. However, most businesses that are growing tend to reach points where the management team have a 'strategy' meeting and agree that it's time to hire a <insert job title here>.
They then spend months debating what this person will do, what skills they will need, who they will manage, what they will be responsible for, etc. The job description is put together, which then goes out to their recruiting partners. Then they sit and wait.
Frustration creeps in as they begin to realise that the perfect employee (that they spent months 'planning' for) doesn't actually exist, so they settle on second best and often cram a square peg into a round hole. Months later they wonder why things didn't work out and so the cycle starts again... "we need to hire a <insert job title here> to solve this one!".
Wouldn't it be much better to know where your next star performers are going to come from and have them tell you (using their oodles of experience) what they think your business needs? Not only does this mean they could create themselves a dream job, which has obvious benefits for motivation, loyalty, commitment, etc. but as a business, the frustrations of searching for the perfect employee that fits that perfect job description that you spent many hours drafting, are gone for good!
